Cynics would attribute the result to the fact that Michael Jordan is American and like other things the Americans were excellent and marketing their sports. Michael Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York. During his very early years, their family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. Jordan was a student of the Emsley A. Laney High School in Wilmington. His first attempt to be a part of the varsity basketball team failed as his height could not match the eligibility criteria for selection. He exhibited his athletic skills right from school where he played basketball, football and baseball.

During the year that followed, he grew taller and earned a place in the varsity team. When he was a senior, he was selected to be a member of the McDonald’s All-American Team.
