| Doing google searches and searching through free web directories, I’ve found there is a definite obsession with daschunds, but not shih tzus or English pointers. Shih tzus are one of the most popular breeds in America, and yet nobody really cares. Daschunds, there are jokes, cartoons, weird pictures, forums, jewelry, t-shirts both of daschunds and specifically for daschunds with statements like “touch my weiner.” I even found an outlet of t-shirts specifically designed for the daschund body with weird statements like that(ie, short legs, long body). My family is already somewhat obsessed with my daschund over my shih tzu. They are always drawing “pictures” of him, buying daschund related gifts at Christmas and birthdays, etc. My shih tzu gets a little left out in the dark. I’ve tried to find little shih tzu specific things, but there is just not the same hype. But I have found little “princess” type things, which she really doesn’t know the difference with. Plus she is significantly harder to draw with all her hair. With a daschund, it’s apparently just a long oval shape, a long head with ears that hang down below the head, a stick tail, and little balls as legs. There are no free web directories that can’t pull this off. But my personal theory, shih tzus are not specifically known to be as neurotic as daschunds. Daschunds have a very distinct definition and stereotype. People find that more entertaining, and are therefore more drawn to obsessing about their personality idiosyncrasies as well as their physical characteristics like huge front paws and regular sized back paws. Without all those types of features or actions, why obsess? Pugs have the same thing with squished in faces, the common snorting problems, irregular intelligence levels, and things like that. In short, just about everybody can like a shih tzu. With pugs or daschunds, you really either love them or hate them. There is no middle ground. |
