Searching Ebay Listings For Art
Posted at 12:27 PM, 8/22/2008
It's certainly not like going to an art auction house yourself, where you get to socialize and peruse hundreds of pieces of artwork for sale, but eBay listings has become a hot trend in the world of art collection. In fact, many galleries and auction houses place art up on the site and advertise for their auctions there as well. Sometimes, you have to bid and wait, whereas other times you can buy instantly at a fair price.
If you're looking for an oil painting, then the listings on eBay have a lot of options for contemporary art for sale (from 1950 - Present). Perhaps you might like Thomas Arvid's oil on canvas masterpiece "Between You And Me," which depicts a downward view of a wine bottle and glasses. This piece is worth roughly $95,000! There are other even higher bids on Anthony Falbo's "The Last Supper," which is currently at $2 million. Of course, for the frugal shopper, five Egyptian paintings on papyrus can be purchased for just $25 or there are generic oil paintings that may catch your fancy for as little as one cent plus shipping!
Under the photography listings, you can find framed photographs of Marilyn Monroe, autographed Arnold Swartzeneggers, rare Elvis calendars and John Wayne images. There are vintage Elsie Ferguson and Betty Grable photos from the pre-1950s era, or Salvador Dali and Andy Warhol prints.
As you browse, you can see a photo, description, price, seller and payment options, including how many people have bid on that particular item. Once you've made your decision, you can click on "buy it now" or "place a bid." If you place a bid, then you'll possibly get a lower price, but someone could also snatch your choice away from you or escalate the price. If you click "buy it now," then you secure your purchase but pay the higher charge, which could be anywhere from $10 more to double the price. Of course, for many shoppers, bidding is all the fun and you, too, may find yourself embroiled in auctions on eBay!
To see how you can enter a live auction to bid on eBay listings and more, try a site like iCollector.com, which compiles all the information about when the auctions are and what they feature. This can be a more fast-paced and intriguing way to shop. You won't have to get dressed up or worry about parking, but you will also have a wonderful selection and more trustworthy sellers!
The danger of auctions on eBay is that, on occasion, a nefarious character will take your money and run. There are no specific guarantees. Some people are trustworthy and even own their own galleries, auction houses or stores. You can tell the good from the bad by checking out the seller's info to see how long they've been an eBay member, how many items they've sold, as well as their ratings and the kind feedback they receive. Scam artists usually don't have much feedback. Another problem may be that you have to wait a long time to receive your order. They generally give you an estimate, but it most always takes longer, so if you're really pressed for time, buyer beware!
There are pros and cons to anything you do in life. Buying from an art auction online doesn't have to be intimidating! If you exercise caution and restraint, ensuring that you check out ratings first, you can add many art investment treasures to your collection through eBay listings.
Camping: Fun For Families
Posted at 12:22 PM, 8/22/2008
The word camping is a rather generic word and may bring to mind many different images for each individual. What does it make you think of? Hiking through the woods or backpacking through the desert? Or does it make you remember when you were a kid and you got to invite a bunch of friends over and set up a tent in your backyard? Of course you had to have that prerequisite sign "boys only" since no girls were allowed. It didn't get any better than that. Camping is also fun for families and make some bonding moments with each other.
Many kids enjoy going to summer camp so they can hang out with a bunch of other kids and tell ghost stories around the campfire while everyone pretends they are not really scared. You can't admit you are actually afraid because that's not cool and they may make fun of you. Yet you are already thinking about the camping gear you may need for next summer, as well as planning your revenge for the year before.
You have talked about it several times, but have never actually done it, so why not now? Pack up the family, hop into an RV camper and head out for a great camping adventure. Planning ahead for such things, such as making sure there are campgrounds or RV services available for your trip can save many headaches later. Also be sure to check and see if reservations are required at any of the places where you are planning to stop.
If you are planning to travel in an RV camper, then plan ahead and find out if any of the locations you plan to camp in have restrictions in place. They may not allow motorized vehicles of any kind, or maybe there is day use only and they have no overnight accommodations available. This type of planning helps to avoid what could be a huge problem for you, not to mention having to deal with "are we there yet?" from the kids. If you have not already decided where you plan to go, then consider a lake campground where there will be swimming, fishing or just relaxing options for everyone. Remember to call and double check on what, if any, restrictions are applicable for the locations you plan on visiting.
Sometimes, despite all the planning, something may go wrong or happen unexpectedly. Which is why traveling in an RV has some advantages. If you are unable to find a family campground or anything else acceptable, then you already have all the equipment that you need, so you can choose to keep going until you find something or stop for the night and continue your camping vacation in the morning. What could be better than a new adventure each and every day? Don't worry about the kids, they will have a blast.
A Lovable Package - Baby Shower Giftsa
Posted at 1:17 PM, 8/13/2008
Without a doubt, shopping for baby shower gifts is enjoyable for anyone. With so many choices and when you're not sure what the new mother needs most, how do you find the right gift? Here is a list of suggestions that will alleviate the guesswork of gift buying, enabling you to find the perfect baby gift idea that will be appreciated by the guest of honor.
If your taste runs toward the more traditional choice of baby shower gifts, then not knowing the gender of the baby beforehand won't be a challenge to your shopping. Simply keep the color of the baby shower gifts neutral. Find a baby gift idea acceptable for either gender. For instance, baby clothes with the parents' favorite sports' team logo is a fun, unique choice, no matter what gender the child.
The baby shower you attend may be one with a theme, so try to find baby shower gifts that match the theme idea. You may be lucky and have a memories themed baby shower to attend, or you can use a memory as a baby gift idea. Bring some photos in a scrapbook you made. Write comments on the page, share the relationship to the mother to be, or jot down funny stories of times you were together. Be as creative as possible. Add extra pages so that the mommy-to-be can include some pictures from the shower and the birth.
Another type of baby gift idea for baby shower gifts is to relate them to a milestone in the baby's life. For this type of gift, choose one that would mark a first in the baby's life. A pair of shoes might be for baby's first step, a gift basket of soaps and lotions might be for baby's first bath, and a set of teething rings might be for that first tooth. The list is endless, and you may think of some baby shower gifts others might not have thought of.
Another great baby gift idea are personalized baby shower gifts. New parents often find out the gender of the unborn child before it is born, and some even select the name. This makes choosing a baby shower gift easy, resulting in embroidered, engraved or monogrammed gifts sure to be a unique baby gift. Be careful when choosing this option, though; many a mother has expected a boy but instead had a girl and vice versa!
You can go so far as helping to furnish the nursery for parents and find some great ideas for baby shower gifts. When decorating the nursery, the new parents might have chosen a theme, such as, Noah's Ark or Disney characters. If this is the case, you might want to get baby shower gifts with these particular themes in mind. Ask about what type of decorations or what color of walls the baby room already has - discreetly!
Finding baby shower gifts aren't about a competition to have the prettiest, most useful, or the best one that the guest of honor crows about. Baby shower gifts are about celebrating a new child and helping a mother have everything she needs. Fun is nice, and unique always makes people feel good, but remember that it's the thought that counts. With that in mind, each gift received will be a unique baby gift to the new mother, and she's sure to be very appreciative.
Facts About Credit Cards Debt
Posted at 12:00 PM, 8/8/2008
Unsecured consumer debt, also known as credit cards debt, is the primary reason people have bad credit and need loans for debt. Our national love affair with plastic credit and our equally national inability to manage it responsibly has led many people down the road to unmanageable debt. Owing large amounts of money and being unable to pay debt off has become an American way of life.
While these cards can be very convenient, they have been known to encourage both irresponsible spending habits and a decrease in financial discipline. Many argue that credit cards are more trouble than they are worth. Yet, millions of people around the world still use them. Many then make their situation worse by choosing to take out loans for debt relief when they owe too much and can't make the payments on credit cards.
Credit cards debt occurs when a client of a credit card company buys something via their card. Because the client often thinks of the credit card as a bottomless pit of money, the client does not allow for wise planning and attention to budget that stems from using only cash to make purchases. Things get even worse for the customer when monthly bills aren't paid on time.
Every time a consumer is late with a credit payment, the credit company reaps huge rewards. Fees ranging from fifteen to thirty dollars are applied to payments that are late even by one day. In addition, interest rates rise, penalties apply, and the creditor makes millions. The consumer, meanwhile, accrues more debt and falls further behind. Credit companies thrive while the consumer is buried under a mountain of credit card debt. Sometimes the only effective way is to get a credit card consolidation loan.
Almost as damaging to credit card customers is the effect these failures to pay have on credit ratings. Credit agencies are immediately notified when a cardholder has defaulted or missed a payment. The result is that the consumer's record is marked. Bad credit is an awful thing to have, as people's credit scores suffer and make it very difficult to be approved for a loan to buy a house or car.
Finally, if a customer continues to default, other creditors may increase their interest rates for that customer, even if the individual has paid all of the debts to that particular company. This is known as universal default and only makes the situation worse for someone who is struggling to get out of debt. Bad credit is contagious.
Although the evils of credit cards debt are well known, this type of debt is increasing in nearly all industrialized countries. More depressingly, the average U.S. college graduate starts post-college life with more than $2,000 in credit cards debt. This slippery slope leads to loans for debt relief, which tend to make matters worse. The best way to avoid the pitfalls of the little plastic card is to budget appropriately and to focus on one's expenses.
The Beauty of Architectural Digest
Posted at 11:31 AM, 8/8/2008
Architectural Digest is not what it sounds like. It is a magazine that specializes in interior design rather than a digest that showcases different structures for trends in architecture. It is aimed at showcasing how homes look on the inside versus how they look on the outside or how they are designed. This can be misleading and can be quite a disappointment for those who are more interested in how a building is made versus how it is decorated. It can be quite a disappointment if you have paid for a subscription before reading the periodical.
Conde' Nast Publications founded Architectural Digest in 1920. It is a publication that showcases the top designs in the world of interior design. It is aimed at the affluent as most of the products are not something you would find in local retail stores. The homes are not self-decorated for the most part. Interior designers put together the rooms as a way to increase their business.
The furniture and accessories, including items such as rugs, lighting and color pallets, are not the quality you may find in Target or Wal-Mart. Even Pier 1 may be considered gauche and below the level of expectation readers have come to demand in this magazine. When you consider that Conde' Nast Publications also produces Vogue Magazine, it is no wonder that the affluent is the demographic being targeted. But other's can still appreciate the beauty and incorporate some of the ideas into their own home.
You do not have to pay a fortune to copy some of the styles in the magazine. While it is true that many of the products within the periodical are aimed at the affluent, you can find lower priced items that are knock-offs of the high-end merchandise. You will not get the same quality of product but you can get the same overall look. If one design speaks to you, examine the items and go to a local interior decorating store and see if you can find something similar. You may even want to invest in some more expensive pieces, such as a great rug or tapestry, and then work around that item.
A subscription to Architectural Digest, for one year, runs around $24.00, but you can find subscription bargains that include a free product and for a little more you can receive a second subscription for free. It would make a great gift for those who find architecture fascinating and are looking to enhance the features of their home through decorating.
Tips For Living With Multiple Sclerosis
Posted at 12:20 PM, 7/24/2008
The symptoms of multiple sclerosis can impair your ability to perform ordinary tasks like showering. However, having the disease does not mean you cannot care for yourself. There are many apparatuses available to keep you safe both at home and in the workplace. In this article, we'll detail some simple safety methods that will make living with multiple sclerosis less of a strain to you and your family.
All MS treatments can have some side effects and all people with multiple sclerosis respond differently to different medications. Some injected MS treatments may cause flu-like side effects, such as fever, chills, muscle aches and tiredness. For many people, the flu-like side effects lessen or go away over time. If you receive an injected MS treatment, then change the time of day that you take your injection. Many people choose bedtime so they can sleep through many of the side effects. Take over-the-counter pain medications. They can help reduce pain or fever. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you have an allergic reaction to a multiple sclerosis drug.
One of the most difficult parts of living with MS is coping with the mental and physical fatigue. It's one of the symptoms of MS, but it can also be caused by some medications. Depending on the type of fatigue, your doctor may recommend aerobic exercise, physical therapy or occupational therapy. Prioritizing your responsibilities, pacing yourself, and delegating work to others will help to conserve your energy. Depression is common and it is managed the same way as depression that occurs without the medicine: an antidepressant medication and/or counseling.
Living with multiple sclerosis will mean making changes to your living environment. Making specific changes around the home can significantly reduce injuries or mitigate high-risk situations, such as falling or getting a burn. For the sake of safety, you should have hand rails and other supports installed in the bathtub. You should also use the microwave instead of a traditional stove and kettle. If you do use a stove, then select a model with controls located at the front, use the back burners whenever possible, and use a stove guard which fits around the side or front of the appliance. Buy a kettle and iron with an automatic switch-off.
The world can be a dangerous place when you're living with multiple sclerosis, so it's important to take the necessary steps to make your home safe. You can find more advice from The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, at a multiple sclerosis center or at any source that provides multiple sclerosis information.
Understanding Electronics Memory
Posted at 11:41 AM, 7/24/2008
Humanity could no longer survive if it were not for electronics. Those tiny circuit boards and transistors are in everything you own and use on a daily basis. It seems as if more and more electronic devices resemble computers. They actually do share features in common. Your notebook memory is essentially the same memory used in a plethora of other electronic equipment such as MP3 players and cell phones. Lots of equipment uses memory to help the device.
Notebook and computer desktop memory work on a storage tier. When you first turn on your computer it must access the Read-Only Memory (ROM) which has been stored in the permanent storage. The next application to load is the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). The final step is opening up the Operating System (OS). Without going into confusing details on why it draws from one storage and not another or why one is a read-only and yet you save to a different storage, you should know that generic memory works the same in a variety of other equipment. The process is very similar to the one your desktop computers use.
A great example of electronics and memory systems is your cellular phone. You utilize the memory every time you go to the address book to call someone. You use the memory modules to access your email, the internet and to set up your calendar function. Sure, it is not the same or capable of the same things as desktop computers, but it brings great convenience to your life!
Even televisions now need memory in order to operate correctly. Many satellite and cable providers are now offering digital recording and the ability to pause live television. Both of these functions require memory, though one is put into long term memory and the other is put into short term memory for fast access. Just remember that the quicker the electronic device can access memory, the faster the device will be.
Electronics have become very sophisticated. Your television can be hooked up to your laptop. Your cell phone can surf the internet and send email messages. All of these little bits of electronic nirvana require the use of memory in order for them to operate. Just think about where you would be if you did not have these luxuries to use on a daily basis. Life itself would become rather boring.
How to Reduce Wrinkles
Posted at 12:30 PM, 7/15/2008
Everyone want to know how to reduce wrinkles, but did you know there are several things you can do to prevent fine lines before they appear? Here are some easy tips that you can follow every day to make sure that your skin and appearance remains as youthful as possible.
One of the best ways to make sure that you reduce wrinkles is to get enough rest each night. As we age, the skin will renew itself slower, which means that elastin and collagen, the substances that make the skin supple and wrinkle-free, will not create themselves within the skin cells as quickly as before. Since rest is the body's way of renewing itself, you can give your skin more of a chance to rid itself of and prevent wrinkles when you make sure that you are getting at least 7 hours of sleep each night. You'll be surprised at how much better you feel, and your skin will begin to improve sooner than you think.
Drinking lots of water every day will also help to reduce wrinkles. When the skin is especially dry, it can be easy for fine lines to surface, so carrying a large water bottle around with you every day will help to remind you that hydration is good for the skin, as well as the rest of the body. Water will help to flush the toxins and free radicals out of the system, and these substances can not only cause wrinkles, but weaken the immune system and reduce your energy level.
Of course, you'll need to watch what you eat in order to reduce wrinkles as well. Making sure that you consume foods that are rich in protein and calcium will do wonders for the skin, so purchase foods like spinach, all types of beans, brown rich, and lean cuts of chicken, as well as fatty fish like salmon or halibut. After just a week or so of a diet that is rich in essential vitamins and minerals, you will start to notice a clearer complexion. You may also want to consider taking vitamin E supplements or B vitamins as part of your daily regimen in addition to taking a multivitamin each morning, but you should ask your doctor beforehand in case you are taking any other medications.
Getting enough exercise and making regular appointments with your dermatologist will also do wonders to help you reduce wrinkles. You can opt to have collagen injections, such as Botox, but if you don't like needles, there are pills that can be taken orally, as well as prescription-strength creams you may want to try. For more information on how to reduce wrinkles, visit www.oilofolay.com.
Fragrances by Calvin Klein
Posted at 12:12 PM, 7/15/2008
Not only does designer Calvin Klein deliver great pieces for the public to choose from each season (not to mention choices on the perfect pair of jeans), but the designer has also created several fragrances that are just as popular as his clothing. Here are some fragrances by Calvin Klein that you may want to try.
There are a few unisex fragrances created by the Calvin Klein Company, which has been a bit of a novel concept in the fashion world. Scents like CK One and CK Be can be worn by both men and women, but because male and female body chemistry is different, the scents will vary in fragrance depending on who is wearing them.
Another favorite fragrance by Calvin Klein is Eternity. There are male and female versions of this cologne, and the female version is named Eternity Moment. Both fragrances are light and airy, but still have a distinct scent that will work well with both casual and evening environments. Eternity uses hints of scents like black pepper and rosewood, while Eternity Moment boasts notes of lilac and lavender.
Obsession, one of the colognes that have been around since the late 1980s, is still a favorite fragrance by Calvin Klein. The warm, musk-inspired fragrance is best worn during winter months, when it 'agrees' with a man's body chemistry the most. A newer version of the cologne, Obsession Night, has been created in recent years, with lighter, floral notes that are still suitable for a man, and there are female versions of the fragrance available as well.
One of the newest perfumes, CK IN 2U, has also become very popular. There are eau de parfum sprays for both men and women; the men's version of the scent is cool and clean, while the female perfume is warm and welcoming.
You can find these fine fragrances at stores everywhere, even at discount department stores like Target and Wal-Mart. You can also check out your local Macy's or Bloomingdale's to get samples of all the perfumes by Calvin Klein you think you may enjoy, so that you can try the scents out for a few days, then come back to the store to make your final decision.
You can also shop online for fragrances by Calvin Klein. Check out www.calvinklein.com/fragrances for a full line of the scents you'll love, as well as discount sites like www.scentiments.com or www.perfumeoverstock.com. These sites will give you the same fragrances at lower prices, since scents are released in seasons similar to clothes. Fragrances released from previous seasons can be up to 50 percent cheaper, so keep checking the sites for updates. Happy shopping!

Banner Exchanges An Internet Marketing Strategy
Posted at 11:01 AM, 6/18/2008
Business owners who want to take advantage of Internet marketing strategies such as banner ads but are on a limited budget may find banner exchanges to be quite useful. The ideal use of banner ads would include placing your banner ad on a website which receives a great deal of traffic and attracts an audience who will likely be interested in your products or services. Additionally, this website should not directly compete for your business. This scenario may be difficult to find and even when a business owner is able to find this type of situation, purchasing advertisement space may be expensive especially if it is a highly competitive niche. These business owners may find banner exchanges to be an affordable alternative.
The most appealing factor of banner ad exchanges is the cost effectiveness of these situations. Most banner ad exchange groups are free to participants. Unlike placing a banner ad independently, there is no financial cost for the appearance of the banner ad on another website but the business owner does have an obligation to fulfill. Most banner ad exchanges will find another website to post your advertisement without charging a fee but they will require you to post at least one banner ad, and sometimes more, on your website in exchange for having your banner ad displayed on another website. Many banner ad exchanges will work to attempt to match your banner ad to a relevant website but this is not always possible and your banner ad may wind up on a website which is not relevant to your products or services. This will likely mean that the banner ads will generate very little interest in your products and services. Similarly the advertisements you are asked to post may not complement your website well. You will likely have the opportunity to reject advertisements in particular categories you find to be offensive but will have little control beyond that to moderate the banner ads on your website.
Another very affordable option for placing your banner ads on the Internet may include starting an affiliate marketing campaign. This is an Internet marketing campaign in which website owners, or affiliates, post your banner ad on their website and attempt to promote your products and services for you. The banner ads typically include graphics and text which entice Internet users to click through the ad to your website and also include embedded code which provides you with feedback detailing which affiliates generated the website traffic. This information is necessary because affiliates are typically not paid unless they achieve a desired result such as enticing Internet users to click through the banner ad or make a purchase. The affiliates are typically compensated either on a cost per click basis or a cost per sale basis. Cost per click means the affiliate receives a predetermined amount of money each time a user clicks on the ad. Cost per sale means the affiliate receives either a flat fee or a percentage of the sale for each sale generated by the affiliate. Affiliates may also be paid on a cost per lead basis which means they are compensated when a user performs a specific action such as registering with a website or filling out a survey. Most people favor affiliate programs because it is a cost effective way to place your banner ads online and because they only have to pay affiliates who are successful.
Using Affiliate Marketing To Promote Your Business
Posted at 10:58 AM, 6/18/2008
Even if you are already using the Internet to market your business, you should consider adding affiliate marketing to you Internet marketing campaign. Affiliate marketing, when done right, can yield a great deal of positive results for your business. Furthermore, even when affiliate marketing is not done right, it will not likely be financially detrimental to the business. This is because affiliate marketing is essentially an advertising program in which you only pay the affiliates when their marketing efforts yield financial results for your business. This article will take a look at affiliate marketing and explain how it works and how you can maximize the benefits of affiliate marketing.
Affiliate marketing essentially involves having website owners, known as affiliates, post advertisements for your website on their own website. You can lear more about affiliate marketig by checking out the Internet marketing blog at www.jeremyburns.com for weekly updates. Affiliate advertisements encourage visitors to click on the link and visit your website. The advertisements are specially coded to allow you to determine how many visitors enter your website through this advertisement. Unlike other types of Internet advertising where the business owner pays for the opportunity to place the advertisement on the website, an affiliate program does not work this way. Instead the affiliate is paid when the advertisement yields a desired result.
Affiliate advertisement can work on a pay per impression, pay per click, pay per lead or pay per sale basis. Pay per impression means the affiliate earns a profit each time the affiliate advertisement is served. This means for each unique visitor who views the advertisement the affiliate is given a predetermined amount of money. This amount will depend on a number of factors and will be agreed upon by the business owner and the affiliate before the advertisements begin appearing on the affiliate’s website. Pay per click programs reward the affiliate each time a visit clicks through the advertisement. Pay per lead programs reward the affiliate when a visitor not only clicks on the advertisement but also performs a desired action such as filling out a survey or registering with the website. Pay per sale programs reward the affiliate each time a visitor clicks through the advertisement on the affiliate’s website and also makes a purchase during this visit. The compensation plans associated with affiliate programs are so desirable because the business owner can have a number of affiliates and they only have to pay these affiliates if the advertising on the affiliate’s website is effective.
Affiliate marketing does not always work. When seeking out affiliates it is important to look for a number of different factors. An affiliate with a great deal of experience, a website with high traffic and a proven track record for producing positive results will likely be a good choice for an affiliate marketing program. These affiliates rely on their advertising knowledge to promote the businesses and do not necessarily have to understand the business they are promoting. Another excellent choice for affiliate marketing is to select another business that is closely related to your own business but does not compete with your business. This is a good idea because they may share your target audience and their website visitors will also likely be interested in visiting your website as well. For example if you sell running shoes you may wish to run an affiliate marketing campaign on a website that promotes road races such as marathons, half marathons, 10Ks and 5Ks. This website does not directly compete with your business but they are likely to attract an audience that would be interested in and have a need for your products or services.
Deciding whether or not to implement an affiliate marketing campaign is easy. As we previously mentioned there is very little risk in this type of campaign so it is worthwhile in just about any situation. A more important decision to make is how you plan to compensate your affiliates. The compensation for pay per impression programs is typically pretty low because your business is not necessarily generating a sale from each impression. Conversely, pay per sale programs usually compensates the affiliate better because the business does directly generate a profit from the advertising on the affiliate’s website. This amount may a flat fee or a percentage of the sale depending on the affiliate agreement.
Employee Relations Is Essential In Business

When I was first starting off in business, employment relations were completely discarded in our company. Basically, if you were on the bottom you did with those on the top told you, and did not complain. This heavy-handed approach to employment relations seemed obvious to the boss, but it actually had some pretty serious unintended consequences. Morality was always low, and people would burn out all the time. Because we were all so alienated from our bosses, we were not very productive workers. It seemed like the more the employment relations policy would toughen up on us, the less we would do.
A few years ago, however, corporate culture changed in our company. It started off on a pretty negative note, but there were some positive results. You see, we were falling on hard times. When the company hired a few consultants, most of us assumed that there would be a wave of sackings. We were very surprised when it didn't go that way at all. On the contrary, although a few people were fired, some of us were actually given raises! Suddenly, management wanted to know our opinions. They instituted all kinds of systems to help us give feedback, both anonymously and in person.
I can't tell you how quickly employee relations improved. It was only about six months before most of us were happy to be working at the company – even proud of it. You see, it didn't take very much. All we needed, in fact, was to know that our opinions were valued. Then we could feel like part of the team, and as part of the team we knew we had a stake in whether the company sank or swam. The bosses would communicate with us more informally, treating us more as friends than underlings. Don't get me wrong – we still new who held the power in the company – but not having it held over your head does good things to your self-esteem.
Recently, I've moved up into management myself, and I've kept the lessons that I learned about employment relations near and dear to my heart. The team building ethic isn't just corporate Newspeak. It really works, and that is a fact. If you can keep your employees happy, they will make you happy in return. By giving good pay and benefits to employees, as well as insisting that they are respected and listened to in their work environment, you can really make the most of them. That is good for both the company and the employees.

Former Panthers Center Curtis Whitley Died At 39

Former NFL player Curtis Whitley dies of still unknown reasons at the age of 39. The police are still investigating but foul play is not visible on the evidences. They are suspecting a drug overdose since Whitley is a known drug user. Check out this story from the Associate press:

FORT STOCKTON, Texas (AP) — Former NFL center Curtis Whitley, who played for three teams in the 1990s and had a history of substance use, was found dead in his trailer home in West Texas.
The Pecos County sheriff said Wednesday that the 39-year-old Whitley was found Sunday night in Fort Stockton, about 220 miles east of El Paso.
Sheriff Cliff Harris said Whitley was found face down in the bathroom by friends who went to check on him after they had not heard from him. Harris said there was no signs of foul play, but the death remains under investigation.
Whitley played for San Diego, Carolina and Oakland from 1992-97 and had two suspensions for violating the league's drug policy.
Whitley's body has been sent to El Paso for an autopsy.
A fifth-round draft pick out of Clemson in 1992, Whitley spent six tumultuous years in the NFL.
He played three seasons for San Diego, but was released in 1994 after an arrest for investigation of drunken driving, then re-signed after a 26-day star at the Betty Ford Center.
The Carolina Panthers chose him in the 1995 expansion draft. He spent two seasons in Carolina and started each game in 1995.
He was suspended four games in 1996 for what officials said was an alcohol-related violation of the drug policy, then released by the Panthers before training camp the next season.
Whitley spent 1997 with the Raiders, appearing in 15 games with one start. He was suspended for the entire 1998 season for violating the drug policy and never played in the NFL again.
Whitley admitted snorting crystal methamphetamine while with the Panthers in a book chronicling Carolina's 1996 season called "Year of the Cat." He said in the book his four-game suspension in Carolina was for drug use, not alcohol abuse as the team had said.
He also revealed in the 1997 book that he had used crystal methamphetamine often since 1992.

Enjoy Coffee Gift Baskets
Posted at 10:20 AM, 5/6/2008
It is getting harder and harder to pick out the right gifts. Everyone I know is on a diet. This makes chocolate gifts baskets and cheese gift baskets out of the question. Of course, sending flowers is alright most of the time, but it is rather ordinary and boring. Who hasn't gotten flowers in a gift basket before? You can always send a nice bottle of wine, but how do you know that you will get it right? Everyone I know has very different tastes in wine, and there is no arguing with taste. The only gift that always works is a coffee gift basket.
The great thing about coffee gift baskets is that they can be enjoyed for so long. They never spoil, and the coffee will keep for years. In addition, coffee and tea gift baskets are more likely to be savored than other kinds. People tend to get guilty about eating cheese and chocolate. They will sneak it from the gift basket in little fevered binges. Coffee gift baskets, however, are treasured. How can you brew a couple of gourmet coffee and not deeply enjoy and savor the aroma? Once the coffee starts percolating, anyone with any taste will be in heaven. This is why coffee gift baskets are superior.
Another great thing about coffee gift baskets is how easy it is to make your own. Of course, you can order a premade one. There are plenty of gourmet coffee gift baskets available that you can send to friends. However, it seems to me that it is so much more lovely of a gesture to put together a coffee gift basket by yourself. You can assemble a selection of your favorite coffees, add cards, ribbons, and other decorations, and maybe even include a few bags of tea. Then you can send it off to your friend.
Whoever gets the gift basket coffee will love it! I have been sending off coffee gift baskets for years, and have never had a single complaint. Everyone loves coffee, or at least everyone with any taste. You can even put in some spices for them to add to the coffee, such as dark chocolate to shave into it, or cardamom. This will give them a whole new coffee drinking experience. The best thing is that they are likely to send you coffee gift baskets back. That way, you can taste their favorite drinks. You might just find something that you like!
Decaffeinated Coffee Versus Coffee
Posted at 9:56 AM, 5/6/2008
Coffee has good and bad effects. Coffee has always been kind of a mixed bag. On the one hand, there are some things about it that are good for you. It has natural antidepressants, and taking the time to drink a cup and relax in the morning can help you have a more happy and productive day. On the other hand, it is acidic and has loads of caffeine. This is not good for your stomach, or for your blood pressure.
I used to be a serious coffee drinker, and thought that I would never switch to decaffeinated coffee. For a coffee junkie like me, decaf coffee is almost a sin. As a matter of fact, most of the serious coffee drinkers that I've known have switched to tea, or given up hot morning beverages altogether, just to avoid drinking the dreaded decaf. It's like coffee with none of the bang. I always felt that it would be better to just drink instant coffee than to drink the finest brewed decaffeinated coffee. Boy, was I wrong!
Once I got over my prejudices against decaffeinated coffee, I found out that it was very nearly as good as regular coffee. Not only that, but nowadays there are decaf coffee equivalence of almost any kind of coffee bean you can buy. You can get free trade coffee, French roast coffee – whatever you like. It all comes in decaffeinated coffee as well as in regular.
Of course, it can be a drag to give up caffeine entirely. It is always nice to have a pick me up in the morning, even if it is not as strong as a traditional cup of coffee. You might not know it, but there is an alternative to decaffeinated coffee. You can actually get low caffeine content coffee. It has all the taste of regular coffee, but lower caffeine content, and lower acidity. It is not artificially decaffeinated through some chemical process, but instead bred to have a lower caffeine content. To me, unless you're really into a particular flavor, this stuff tastes much better than decaffeinated coffee. It certainly is worth a try at least!
The biggest mistake that people make when switching to decaffeinated coffee, is to switch to lower quality coffee. They will use flavor crystals, when before they used to drink brewed fresh coffee. This is a mistake, and it leads to the belief that decaffeinated coffee tastes much worse than normal coffee. Nothing could be farther from the truth!
Evaluating the Response to Your Internet Marketing
Posted at 10:43 AM, 4/28/2008
Starting an Internet marketing campaign is only the first step in the battle. Sure it is a good idea to start an Internet marketing campaign if members of your target audience are likely to use the Internet to research or purchase the products you sell or the services you offer but these marketing efforts may turn out to be a complete waste of time if you are not diligent about evaluating the response to your Internet marketing. This means each time you implement a change to your marketing strategy; you should evaluate the results of the change to determine whether or not it generated a greater profit for you. This is important because it can help you determine what is working and what is not working for you.
Evaluating the response of your Internet marketing can be done in a number of different ways. Customer surveys and embedded HTML code are two of the most popular methods of evaluating the effectiveness of an Internet marketing campaign. Customer surveys can be as simple or as complex as you like depending on the amount of feedback you would like to receive. However, one of the most effective ways to find out how well your different marketing tactics are working is to include a question asking the consumer where they first learned about your products or services. This is important because if you find a great deal of your customers are learning about your products or services through a particular venue, it is a good indication this method of advertising is working quite well for you.
Embedding code into your advertisements for the purpose of receiving feedback is also a popular method of evaluating the response to your Internet marketing strategies. Advertisements can be coded so the business owner receives feedback each time an Internet user clicks through a particular advertisement. This is useful for letting the business owner know which of his advertisements are attracting the most attention. If the business owner is using two different designs for his advertisements he may discover one design is attracting more attention than others and may make the decision to convert all of the advertisements to a more effective style. Similarly a business owner who is running the same advertisement on several different websites may discover he is receiving more traffic from one website than others. He may also discover some websites are not attracting much attention at all. This would give the business owner an indication of which advertisements to cancel and which ones to keep running.
Finally, the response to an Internet marketing campaign can be evaluated by carefully reviewing website traffic statistics after implementing changes to the marketing strategy. This information is useful because an unusual spike in the amount of website traffic immediately after implementing a stage of the marketing campaign can provide positive feedback that the change was well received by potential customers. While this method of evaluating the response to an Internet marketing campaign can be effective it is important to note implementing multiple changes at once will make it difficult to determine which changes were the most effective. Therefore if you plan to use website traffic as feedback for how well your marketing strategy is working it is important to only implement one major change at a time so they can each be evaluated separately.
Creating Email Lists for Marketing Campaigns
Posted at 10:20 AM, 4/28/2008
If you plan to do some Internet marketing to promote your business endeavor, you should seriously consider email marketing as at least one tier of your Internet marketing campaign. Many business owners shy away from email marketing because they believe all email marketing campaigns are purely spam. However, this is not true and not partaking in this type of marketing can cause your business to lose out on a great deal of business. By not appealing to potential customers via email, your business may lose a great deal of business to competitors who are using email marketing campaigns to reach customers around the world. However, the first step of an email marketing campaign should be creating an email distribution list. This article will discuss some popular options for doing this and should help to the reader to learn more about what is acceptable and what is not when it comes to email marketing.
Once you have made the decision to start using email marketing to promote your business you are likely facing the dilemma of compiling an email distribution list. This is essentially a list of email addresses to which you will email your advertising and promotional materials. One common way to gain a list of email addresses is to purchase a list from distributors. However, this method is not very effective at all and we do not recommend it. The problem with purchasing an email list if you have no way of knowing whether or not the members of the list would have any interest at all in your products or services. This is very important because while you want to reach a large audience with your email marketing you also want this audience to be members of your overall target audience.
When you purchase an email list you may be sending your email messages to some users who might be interested but this is largely coincidental and is not likely to be well received because the message was not solicited.
Internet users are very quick to delete materials they believe to be spam without even opening or reading the emails. In fact some Internet service providers include spam filters which may automatically delete your emails if your messages are deemed to be spam. These filters run complex algorithms on the subject heading and content of the message to determine whether or not it is spam and are quite adept at weeding out spam. Therefore you run the risk of having your email marketing effort turn out to be a complete waste if the majority of recipients never even read or receive the message.
A far better way to create an email distribution list for your email marketing campaign is to ask current customers as well as interested potential customers to register with your website to receive additional information and periodic updates about your products and services as well as other information which might be of interest to them. This provides you with a database of email addresses from current customers as well as potential customers who have a genuine interest in your products and services and who are interested in learning more about these products and services.
Once you have a list of interested customers or potential customers you can send emails or create e-newsletter for distribution to the members of your email list. These documents should contain a wealth of valuable information as well as a soft sell pitch for your products and services. This information will be valued by the readers and may help to persuade them to try your products and services.
You might also want to include useful links to either your website as well as other websites which may be of interest to your readers. Your content should also contain a portion which urges the reader to take a specific action such as making a purchase or at least investigating a product further.
