For The Public Good

There are things that should not be used to deceive the common consumers. For example, a lot of companies used prescription drugs in over the counter things of all kinds, and they all got shut down when they got caught. But there are other things, like the fact that the government allows food products to use MSG despite all its health related issues without actually naming it on the box, because then customers might not want to buy it. You think? I mean don’t we have the right to be informed about what we are getting, what we are using, etc? Don’t I have the right to know if my acne wash uses benzoyl peroxide, alcohol, or industrial chemicals? Don’t I have the right to know if something in my food is going to corrode my stomach? I like to think so. But there are other things which I don’t know about. Recently, father of Rubina Ali Slumdog Millionaire star was apparently going to be charged by Indian police for allegedly trying to sell his daughter. Now that is a crime that happens to children every day, and while I think it’s sad that so many children are going without help while she gets it just because she’s a media darling, it was at least getting some public acknowledgement. And frankly, in cases of all kinds, police lie all the time to close the deal. But police have now claimed that even though there is apparent proof that he wanted to take $400,000 to sell his own daughter, they are not going to charge him because the reporter “misrepresented” himself. Police go into gang situations and initiate themselves into the gang all the time for the “public interest” and according to the British, a reporter can “engage in misrepresentation or subterfuge”, but specifically when it is deemed to be in the public interest. Complaints can be lodged, and things will be investigated. But I mean really, controlling the sale of children, wouldn’t that be in the “public interest”? I would hope it would just as I would hope that they never stop disclosing content of an acne wash just because people finally start figuring out that hey that ingredient might do more damage to my skin than it’s worth. They’ve already done that with food, and that is definitely not for the “public good.”
